You Can Choose!

November 2, 2015

You can’t have it all but you have choices that you can make. What would “having it all” look like to you? For me, it is being a work at home woman, having the time and resources to create the home of my dreams that is welcoming and nurturing for peace and creativity, and being able to share my passion for the homemaking arts and skills that I have spend a lifetime learning. Do I have my “all”? Definitely not. But I can choose to bring to life those parts of my “all” that are possible right now.

Choose to be content

It would be really easy to focus on what I can’t have right now. I can’t be a work at home woman because, for now, our insurance benefits and our housing are tied to my employment. I can’t have the home of my dreams  in the sense of actual structure because it it not financially possible at this time.

But, I CAN create a home in our rental duplex that is welcoming and provides a place to nurture peace and creativity. I CAN share my passion for the homemaking arts and skills that I have learned. I CAN make a choice between being content with the blessings that I have and being frustrated because I can’t have it all.

I choose contentment.

I choose to shop in my garage and closets for hidden treasures that will create seasonal vignettes that bring me joy. I choose to remove from my home the items that we don’t love and don’t need so that we don’t have to live with the frustration of clutter. I choose to use the talents I have been blessed with to be a blessing to others. I choose not to whine about my circumstances but to embrace them with perseverance to overcome adversity.

What will you choose?

If you work outside the home as I do, I encourage you to choose what you can do and let the rest go. If you have a tight budget, I encourage you to shop in your garage and your closets (or maybe even your mom or mom-in-law’s garage or closets) to find hidden treasures to create the atmosphere that you want in your home. If you want to be hospitable without breaking the budget, I encourage you to plan potlucks as we have done through the years so that we can open our home without financial strain.

Whatever “having it all” means to you, I encourage you to pursue the parts of your “all” that are possible and stop allowing frustration to keep you from having any of it or not enjoying what you do have.

Choosing contentment as I share my heart for home!
