As most of you know, we moved this past September.<\/div>\n
We had lived in our home for almost 20 years and collected a lot of \u201cstuff.\u201d<\/div>\n
Some of it was ours, some of it was my parents (including an 8 x 10 storage unit), and some was left when various family members lived with us for short times and then moved out leaving \u201cstuff\u201d behind.<\/div>\n
We sorted, donated, and threw away a lot but my garage still looks like this–<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Embarrassing to share but I\u2019m sure others can relate. Some of this \u201cstuff\u201d we made a deliberate choice to keep<\/div>\n
but the closer we got to moving day the more we just packed and it came with us<\/div>\n
\u201cuntil we had time to sort, donate, and throw away.\u201d Well, sorting time has begun.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I shared my \u201cfocus\u201d project in my last post\u2014our master bedroom and the planning, consulting with my husband and\u00a0making lists\u00a0has begun. I will be sharing updates as the checklist is completed.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
However, there are small projects that take only a few moments that I can do along the way.<\/div>\n
Today is a school holiday so I get to be home alone. That is a rare treat for me.<\/div>\n
As I clean and putter on our living floor in preparation to host my husband\u2019s \u201cpoker\u201d group tomorrow evening,<\/div>\n
I am cozying up a couple little corners of our nest without spending money. I went \u201cshopping\u201d in my garage.<\/div>\n
Here are a few of my \u201cfinds\u201d adding interest to our powder room.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The treadle machine was one of the few items salvaged<\/div>\n
from my grandfather-in-law\u2019s home that was destroyed by fire in the 1970\u2019s.<\/div>\n
\u00a0The machine in the cabinet still works and I hope someday to have enough space to display it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The prize piece in this display that was found during my \u201cgarage shopping\u201d<\/div>\n
was the pillow case doing duty as a table scarf.<\/div>\n
I could only find one so I didn\u2019t want to use it for a lone pillow.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"Embroidery<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
My Grandma Alice embroidered the design and crocheted the edging.<\/div>\n
She is my namesake so items from her hands are very special.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So, what prizes do you have hiding in a box in your garage or attic?<\/div>\n
Who do you know that will let you \u201cshop\u201d in their garage or attic\u2014a parent or grandparent?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Having my grandmother\u2019s things in my home reminds me that<\/div>\n
she had a heart for home that she never hesitated to share with me while I was growing up.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I\u2019m glad that I can share her and my heart for home!<\/div>\n
