{"id":71,"date":"2014-04-23T19:05:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-24T02:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myheart4home.com\/?p=71"},"modified":"2014-04-23T19:05:00","modified_gmt":"2014-04-24T02:05:00","slug":"my-own-creamery-sweet-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myheart4home.com\/myheart4home.com\/my-own-creamery-sweet-success\/","title":{"rendered":"My Own Creamery: Sweet Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center;\">My mom used to tell me that I had been born in the wrong generation. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">She said I fit in better with my grandmother\u2019s generation than my own <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">when it came to cooking and crafting. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Truth is, I love cooking and learning to make foods that are considered<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;\u201cbeyond the realm\u201d of the home kitchen. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">I would have to disagree with my mom though<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;because in this generation it is even more important to know what is in our food. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">And, what better way than to make it yourself!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">I attempted again to make mozzarella cheese tonight. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">In my past attempts the flavor has been wonderful but I have never been able to get the texture right. It always looked more like ricotta <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">than mozzarella even though it tasted like the latter.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/62698619786751001\/\" target=\"_blank\">recipe<\/a>&nbsp; is on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pskolrud\/my-own-creamery\/\" target=\"_blank\">My Own Creamery<\/a> board on Pinterest. The recipe is from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheesemaking.com\/cheesemakingbooks.html\" target=\"_blank\">Home Cheese Making<\/a> <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">by Ricki Carroll. I have bought the e-book and am excited to try more recipes.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Tonight I met with success! When I kneaded the cheese <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">it actually became stretchy like \u201cpulled taffy.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/myheart4home.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Mozza%25252520taffy_thumb%2525255B7%2525255D%2525255B2%2525255D.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mozza taffy_thumb[7]\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/myheart4home.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Mozza%25252520taffy_thumb%2525255B7%2525255D_thumb.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" height=\"333\" style=\"background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\" title=\"Mozza taffy_thumb[7]\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">I was able to stretch it and roll it into a few small \u201csnack\u201d size balls <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">and a couple of larger ones for a recipe I hope to make on Friday.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/myheart4home.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Mozzarella_thumb%2525255B6%2525255D%2525255B2%2525255D.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mozzarella_thumb[6]\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/myheart4home.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Mozzarella_thumb%2525255B6%2525255D_thumb.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" height=\"333\" style=\"background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\" title=\"Mozzarella_thumb[6]\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">They\u2019re not at pretty as the ones at the market <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">but I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll get better at shaping them with practice.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;My husband loved the cheese despite what it looked like.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">But that\u2019s not the end of my cheese making adventure this evening.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">I reheated the whey left from the mozzarella according to the recipe for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/62698619786814159\/\" target=\"_blank\">ricotta<\/a>. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/myheart4home.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Ricotta%25252520draining_thumb%2525255B4%2525255D%2525255B2%2525255D.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ricotta draining_thumb[4]\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/myheart4home.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Ricotta%25252520draining_thumb%2525255B4%2525255D_thumb.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" height=\"333\" style=\"background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\" title=\"Ricotta draining_thumb[4]\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">As I type this post, it is straining through the cheesecloth <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">and should give me about 8 to 12 ounces of ricotta. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">At the end of this process, I will pour the leftover whey back into the gallon milk jug.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;I will use it to replace the warm water to proof yeast in homemade bread. It adds wonderful flavor.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">I am amazed at how much I can get out of one gallon of milk: <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">about 1 1\/2 pounds of mozzarella, 8 to 12 ounces of ricotta,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;and whey for about six batches of bread. <\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">It\u2019s budget wise AND I know that my cheese doesn\u2019t have any unnecessary additives.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Enjoying the yummy food that I can create with my heart for home!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><em>Pam<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My mom used to tell me that I had been born in the wrong generation.
