My wonderful husband is a grilling magician! He serves up amazing ribs, stuffed pork chops,<\/div>\n
salmon-on-a-plank, and more! And it is all delicious!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
His barbecue grill is over ten years old and starting to look it! The last time he grilled,<\/div>\n
he noticed that one of the burners was no longer working.<\/div>\n
Well, it\u2019s almost Father\u2019s Day so I decided it was time to go shopping.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We found an awesome bargain on a grill. It has four burners and a sear burner, with a side burner<\/div>\n
and it was half price! The store offers free assembly but my hubby is one of those do-it-yourself types<\/div>\n
\u00a0so it came home in a box.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

He unpacked the boxes and sorted the pieces into the back of his truck and then came in the house<\/div>\n
\u00a0to say he needed an extra pair of hands.That was code for<\/div>\n
\u00a0“I need someone whose willing to read the directions.\u201d<\/div>\n
So I went out to help.<\/div>\n

Working together, it didn’t take long to go from this\u2026<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
to this\u2026<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"Rod<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
to this amazing grill!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We are in the thirty-fourth year of our marriage and have learned how to have fun working together.<\/div>\n
For this project, I read the directions(because he doesn\u2019t like to read directions
\nand I almost always read them!) and held things<\/div>\n
\u00a0in place while he used the tools. For other projects, he has played \u201cgo-fer\u201d while<\/div>\n
I\u2019m the one with safety glasses and power tools.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I am often amused when I read books, articles, even blogs that want to assign duties<\/div>\n
\u00a0in the home and family to a specific gender. It has never worked that way in our home.<\/div>\n
Our lives have ebbed and flowed through the years with each of us assuming the roles<\/div>\n
\u00a0that fit for that time in our lives without regard to whether<\/div>\n
\u00a0it was \u201cman\u2019s work\u201d or \u201cwoman\u2019s work.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I love being his partner and helpmeet. Our marriage may not look like anyone else\u2019s<\/div>\n
but that\u2019s okay. I\u2019m happy to read the directions while he assembles a DIY project,<\/div>\n
and he doesn\u2019t mind loading the dishwasher and vacuuming.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I\u2019m looking forward to the meals that we will prepare together with his new grill!<\/div>\n
He’ll grill meat and veggies while I bake bread and assemble desserts.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our first big event will be a barbecue to celebrate the graduate students for our university<\/div>\n
that have earned teaching certificates this year, and then on Sunday our family will be together<\/div>\n
\u00a0to enjoy Father\u2019s Day together honoring my hubby and oldest son<\/div>\n
(and holding our 2nd Annual Family Burger Cook-off Contest).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
One of the best parts of our relationship is that he shares and supports my vision<\/div>\n
for sharing my heart for home!<\/div>\n
