Wonderful Peace

April 15, 2020

Peace is hard to find right now. All around us is healthcare and economic chaos as the world experiences the COVID-19 pandemic. “Stay At Home” orders separate us from our families and limit us to voice and video interactions. We work via remote connections and protect ourselves with masks if we have to venture outside our homes. So where do we find peace?

Peace Wonderful Peace

Don’t let your heart be troubled

Our peace comes from the only true Giver of Peace. He tells us in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” Jesus is our source of peace in this time of chaos and turmoil. I encouraged you that we can find peace!

Music can bring peace to your soul

This evening, I left my home office and wandered down to the living room to sit at the piano. When frustrated or anxious, playing the piano for an audience of two (myself and the Lord) brings calm and peace to my soul. Playing through old gospel songs reminds me that He is in control. He holds tomorrow and he holds my hand. He will keep me safe until this storm passes by, and I am sheltered in the arms of God.

I love the old hymn Peace, Peace, Wonderful Peace. When my oldest granddaughter was a toddler, I would sing that chorus to her when she would get upset during the day or work herself into a frenzy at naptime. As I would sing, she would settle and relax. When she learned to talk, she learned the words and sang along.

Nora singing at naptime.

Even at the young age of two, Nora understood and felt the peace that came down from above. When she became a big sister and her siblings would cry she would say, “Sing the peace song, Grandma, so they will stop crying” and she would sing along.

Peace replaces fear

Peace comes when we stop letting fear control us. We can have peace despite being isolated at home and having an uncertain economic future. He holds the future so let Him hold you, too. Stop reacting to the barrage of negative news reports and start responding by asking God to give you peace.

I hope you have found peace in the middle of this pandemic. I would love to hear how you have overcome fear in the chaos. As so many around the world are under “Stay at Home” orders, I feel blessed to share my heart for home and from home.
