Standing in the Gap

November 5, 2013

Have you ever reached a point where you don’t know what to do next and you don’t even know how to pray for what you are going through? I feel like I have been in that place for too long!

This morning as I had my quiet time, I was impressed with two thoughts that I am sure came from the Lord.

The first was a reminder from Romans 8:26 that says “…for we do not know how to pray as we should but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words..” I am being prayed for by the Holy Spirit who knows so much better than I do what I need!

The second thought took me to a Scripture passage in Ezekiel 22 where God is talking about all of the atrocities that have been done in Israel and that He would pour out His indignation upon the people and consume them with His wrath (verse 31). But what caught my attention was the verse before that (Ezekiel 22:30):

“I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.”

I recognized that the Holy Spirit was standing in the gap for me as were many friends and family members that have shared their prayers for me. But who was I called to stand in the gap for? Who was left unprotected because I was so self-absorbed that I couldn’t see beyond my own crisis? God immediately brought to mind a precious family member that is estranged and I knew that I needed to respond to the call to “stand in the gap” on their behalf.

As I seek to make my new dwelling place a home, I need to also reach beyond its walls to extend the peace and rest, joy and fun, ministry and healing to which God has called me.

As always, counting my blessings and loving that God gifted me with a Heart 4 Home!

Pam
