We have a lot of birds in our backyard. One pair even built a nest in our tomato planter – twice.
My sweet granddaughter and her mommy loved taking peeks to see if the eggs had hatched yet.
It was amazing how quickly the baby birds grew and flew the nest.
My husband enjoys woodworking projects and my granddaughter loves being a helper.
So he decided this week that they would build a bird feeder for all of those birds
that live in our backyard.
He went online and found a pattern. On Monday, he cut all of the wood pieces
so that he didn’t have to try to use a saw and watch her at the same time.
It was all ready to go when she arrived on Tuesday.
He turned her loose with plates of outdoor acrylic paint and a sponge brush,
and let her paint to her heart’s content. He helped her try to put hand prints on each end
of the bird feeder. Her favorite painting tool was her hand!
After the paint dried, he assembled the bird feeder.
(She didn’t want to help with this part because the nail gun was too loud!)
Today he hung the feeder in the tree near our patio. She loves to be on the ladder
so she had to stand on the bottom rung while he put it up. Then I lifted her up to him
so she could be the one to fill the feeder with the bird seed.
She scooped it into the feeder and even grabbed a little seed to see if it “tasted” good.
Whenever she goes into the backyard she checks to see if the birdies are eating yet.
Of course, as you can see in the pictures, we realized after it was hung that
the bottom of the bird feeder should have been painted. So I am sure that they will get out
the paints on another day and paint the bottom so it is as pretty as the rest of the feeder.
I love that my husband takes an active role in making memories with our granddaughter!
Do you have little ones in your life that would enjoy spending time with you?
Take a little time from the day-to-day routines to make memories that you both
can treasure in the years to come. It doesn’t always have to be a big project.
It can be as simple as taking walks, watching a kids movie, or watching
the birds and bunnies that play in the yard while sitting in the patio swing.
I’d love to hear about your fun making memories.
I am so thankful that the Lord has given me a husband
who shares my heart for our home and family!
